Those of us who’ve been there know that brides-to-be are like teenagers. Wedding planning is like puberty anxiety all over again. One of the most prominent features of both brides and teenagers, is that strong feeling of being misunderstood and special. Newsflash ladies, you’re not. Sure, it’s your wedding, but it’s not the only wedding going on. In fact, 2.4 million couples get married every year just in the US. That number should tell you that the chances that someone out there is planning the exact same event like you, are very big. Once couple of wedding planners start pitching the same awesome-sounding overly enthusiastic “original idea”, a trend is created. Whether you are practical by nature, or you’re a fashionista every step of the way, there are some great trends every year that shouldn’t be avoided, and 2019 is no exception.
Natural look is the best fashion statement
First of all, something reserved just for you antsy brides out there – natural beauty. No-makeup makeup is making huge waves in the Hollywood industry at the moment and it is showing in the wedding world as well. Useful treatments that can make your natural skin tone stand out seem to be all the rage right now. From perfecting your brows with microblading to microneedling to make your bridal glow pop, there is a wide (and weird) array of treatments that will help you enhance your natural beauty. One of the main benefits of going makeup free to your own wedding is not worrying about fixing your blush all the time. Clearly, you shouldn’t worry about your highlighter streaming down your face while you breakdance on the floor with your prince charming. Furthermore, casual hairstyles, like messy buns and effortless unfussy updos, are also a fashion-must this year. I guess the fashion world just saw Alicia Keys shining at the Grammys last year and said: “Uh-huh, you go guuurl, we are right behind you!” Whichever the case may be, heavy cement on top of your lovely face is not mandatory any more, so Tati Westbrook can chill for a minute.
“It’s a nice day for a white wedding”
Now that we’ve covered the face (no pun intended), you probably expect we’ll move on to the dress-trend and tell you for 1000th time how Meghan Markle revolutionized regal dress blah blah blah…No. We only deal with strong facts in this blog, and the fact is that you will simply choose the dress that fits you best. What’s even more awesome than some overly talked about dress, is having a band and a DJ at the same time, without looking ridiculous or over-the-top. Last year you had to pick a team, but now both your aunt and your 16yo niece can have the time of their lives on your special day. Now you don’t have to make peace with listening “Over the Rainbow” for seven times in five hours.Spice it up with some The Weeknd or Rihanna. If you are still not convinced how important the wedding music really is, just watch The Wedding Singer, and let Adam Sendler and Billy Idol tell you all about it. White wedding can have some edges too.
Keep it creative in every snse
Now that we’ve mentioned that, a wedding doesn’t have to be white at all. This year is all about the so-called moody and brooding hues. If you really want your wedding to stand out, change its color and make the world gasp. It’s all about mixing it up and boosting the unexpected in 2019. Put September colors into your July wedding, and you will dazzle everyone. Well, aside from your cousin Karen, she will never approve of such nonsense. Don’t feel bad ladies, we all have a Karen in our families… So, be quirky, take those magenta table clothes and fringe them with yellow rose-petals, or be glam, and spray some gold over those emerald ballroom curtains. Just make a contrast, you won’t be sorry and Karen will be shocked. It’s a win-win situation!
Did you know that $19 billion is spent on wedding gift registries every year? Mhm, and most of that stuff just ends up in the kitchen cabinets collecting dust anyway. Keeping that in mind, it is no wonder that things are changing in that department as well. In 2019 it is quite cool to ask – for virtually anything! Nicholas Cage doesn’t have to be the only one with an octopus as a pet, you can get your own now too! All jokes aside, this year you can actually ask for exactly what you need without feeling sheepish. You can even set up a fund where your guest can simply add some cash without buying a present you would probably end up regifting anyway. So, talk to your partner, think about what you actually need the most, and ask for that. It’s 2019, it’s safe now.
Don’t forget to add apersonal touch *wink wink
Last but not least, for all of you fellow-nerdettes out there, fantasy weddings are now definitely a thing. However, you don’t want to go too crazy and give your elderly guests a heart attack, so go with subtle but important additions. Magicians, palm readers, pirates and stormtroopers are more than welcome at 2019 weddings, and they can certainly make an unforgettable impact on your wedding photos. If you are like me, you might even add a Michael Myers after the youngest guests hit the bed. However, be sure to do these fantasy fun parts with a measure, or your wedding day might become too “colorful” and that is not as good as it sounds. As much as your wedding is your special day, you want the people around you to have a great time as well. Needless to say, they won’t be able to do that if they are freaked out by Darth Vader giving a toast at their table. So, before you turn your wedding into a tribute to Middle Earth, keep in mind that your wedding is a one-time affair (hopefully) and you can read Tolkien any day for the rest of your life.
Whatever you do and whichever trend you choose to follow, make sure to be happy and don’t forget to party like your life depends on it. All else is less important.
